Senior Year Fall 2009

My undergraduate career seems to be going by faster and faster. This past semester, Fall 2009, was a hell of a lot of work. I’ve been overachieving like a preppy little schoolboy, but I feel like all the hard work is definitely worth it. My portfolio has definitely grown significantly with six new additions, of which are solid works. My course load this past semester was 20 upper-level credits, 1 massive senior thesis, a 36′ x 8′ Homasote display wall, and the responsibilities of being the President of the RPI Graphics Club. I somehow managed to pull off a 3.93 GPA this semester despite the high work load, which required superhuman abilities to complete. The elusive 4.0 GPA still evades me… aghh! Continue Reading…

Information design is the skill and practice of preparing information so people can use it with efficiency and effectiveness. Below is a list of 7 excellent examples of Information Design / Infographics which I have amassed from across the web.

Time Life Book

The designer, Jihad Lanham, does an excellent job with gathering all the information and organizing it into an effective and well-defined manner. The use of grid formatting, color, and effective typography really pull the work together. Continue Reading…

CSS 3.0 modules and selectors have been implemented into the most recent update of many popular web browsers, including Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, and Google Chrome. Unfortunately Internet Explorer doesn’t support CSS3. Regardless of the IE fallback, I have decided to implement a number of new CSS3 features into my redesign. I recently updated my style sheet to add border-images. See the horizontal lines on my sidebar?

I used the new “-moz-border-image / -webkit-border-image” to make the necessary changes from a 1px solid line to a 2px repeating image for the bottom border of list elements and other various places. The code is after the break.

06.29.09

It’s been a while since I posted. I finished the spring semester with a 3.77 GPA, and a 3.84 GPA overall. Hard work but it’s worth it. I recently redesigned my website to advertise myself as a freelance designer. I think the redesign is a success – warmer colors, better content layout, and slick jquery and mootools effects. I hand-coded the static pages with PHP, CSS/XHTML, JavaScript (mootools & jquery), and of course kept Wordpress for my blogging backend.

I integrated the flickr API into my frontpage to display random images from my flickr account. I also integrated my last.fm account to display a live stream of the album covers to the music I am currently listening to – thanks to KomodoMedia for the Sexy Music Album Overlays! In addition, I’ve got my facebook status being piped into the ‘About’ page, of which I had to run through some loops to get working.

I am currently looking for web design or other graphics related work, and I hope my redesign will help bring in some clients with the aid of craigslist and other resources.
