CSS 3.0 modules and selectors have been implemented into the most recent update of many popular web browsers, including Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, and Google Chrome. Unfortunately Internet Explorer doesn’t support CSS3. Regardless of the IE fallback, I have decided to implement a number of new CSS3 features into my redesign. I recently updated my style sheet to add border-images. See the horizontal lines on my sidebar?

I used the new “-moz-border-image / -webkit-border-image” to make the necessary changes from a 1px solid line to a 2px repeating image for the bottom border of list elements and other various places. The code is after the break.

It’s been a while since I posted. I finished the spring semester with a 3.77 GPA, and a 3.84 GPA overall. Hard work but it’s worth it. I recently redesigned my website to advertise myself as a freelance designer. I think the redesign is a success – warmer colors, better content layout, and slick jquery and mootools effects. I hand-coded the static pages with PHP, CSS/XHTML, JavaScript (mootools & jquery), and of course kept WordPress for my blogging backend.

I integrated the flickr API into my frontpage to display random images from my flickr account. I also integrated my last.fm account to display a live stream of the album covers to the music I am currently listening to – thanks to KomodoMedia for the Sexy Music Album Overlays! In addition, I’ve got my facebook status being piped into the ‘About’ page, of which I had to run through some loops to get working.

I am currently looking for web design or other graphics related work, and I hope my redesign will help bring in some clients with the aid of craigslist and other resources.

I migrated to Arch Linux back in October and have been in love ever since. I thought Ubuntu was flexible but Arch stretches that whole idea to a new level. We’re talking about building your OS from the ground up, the way you like it. Much more customization and less bloat.

The details:

  • OS: Arch Linux x86_64
    • Kernel: 2.6.28-Arch
  • Desktop Environment: Xfce4
    • Window Manager: Compiz
    • Window Decorator: Emerald; Kind of Blue by tob1k
  • Desktop Aesthetics
  • Applications
    • Music Management: Rhythmbox
    • IM & Chat: XChat & Pidgin
    • Browser: Firefox

I recently posted items to my eBay selling account which consisted of shirts, shoes, cologne, and whatever else I have laying around that is collecting dust. The items in question here are seven, like-new, American Eagle long-sleeve shirts that are being sold individually. An eBay member decided to ask me a question about the items, in which case, he/she blatantly questions my integrity. The question is as follows:

So I’m in the process of selling my Samsung 910T 19″ LCD Monitor on ebay. I bought the monitor in 2004 for $600, it’s almost 5 years old, and I would really like a newer and larger monitor.

I figure my budget for a new monitor is around $300 and I’m pretty confident it will be another Samsung. In almost 5 years I never experienced any problems with my 19″ Samsung. No dead or stuck pixels, super crisp display, and beautiful colors.

I have my eye on the Samsung 2443BWX Widescreen LCD Monitor.

It’s a beautiful widescreen display for $329.99 + $30 mail-in rebate. The LCD would be kick ass on my Linux Box and also increase productivity with my design work. I really need to see what kind of cash comes my way for Christmas before I purchase the monitor though. Ahh I’m really itching for it!

I recently purchased the LG Shine (cu720) from ebay to use on the Unicel Network in upstate NY. After finding very limited information on the phone settings, I set off to figure it out myself. Below is a guide to how I got text messaging, picture/video messaging & the web browser to work.

Once you have successfully unlocked your at&t LG Shine to work with your Unicel SIM card, you will most likely see the dreaded “Service Unavailable” message whenever you try to send multimedia messages and access the mobile web. To fix this, I did the following:
*Note: if your standard text messaging and voicemail already work, you may skip steps 3&5.*

Step 1 – New Network

Navigate to: Settings > Connection > Network Profiles >> New
Connection title:
Pictures2Go
Authentication: No Auth
Username: <leave blank>
Password: <leave blank>
APN: apn.unicel.com
Save

Step 2 – Browser Settings

Navigate to: MEdia Net > Browser Settings > Accounts >> Options >> New
Account Name:
Unicel
Homepage: http://wap2.info2go.com
Connection Mode: TCP with Proxy
Proxy Address: 66.252.241.18
Proxy Port Number: 8080
Security: Non-secure
Timeout: 150
Network Profiles: Pictures2Go
Save & Activate

Step 3 – Text Messaging

Navigate to: Messaging > Message Settings > Text Message
Message Center Number: +18023950008
Email Gateway: 0000000000

Step 4 – Multimedia Messaging

Navigate to: Messaging > Message Settings > Multimedia Message > Message Center >> Options >> New
Name: PICTURES2GO
MMSC URL: http://mms.info2go.com/servlets/mms
MMSC Proxy: 66.252.241.18
MMSC Port: 8080
Connection Mode: TCP with Proxy
Network Profile: Pictures2Go
Save & Activate

Step 5 – Voicemail

Navigate to: Messaging > Message Settings > Voicemail
Voicemail Number: 16034816245

Step 6 – Turn Off IMS *Very Important!*

Navigate to: Main Screen > Service Menu > IMS Setting
To enter the Service Menu press: 277634#*#
IMS Feature: Deactivate
Exit
Restart Phone

*note: DO NOT press Factory Reset! Pressing Factory Reset will leave your body with a 99% chance of instant spontaneous combustion. If you are lucky enough to be spared, mental retardation will likely ensue.*

There you have it. You should now be able to send multimedia messages and access the web. Step 6 is rather crucial if you want multimedia messaging & web to work – I struggled to figure that one out. I am pretty sure that the Network settings are not location specific, meaning they change depending on where you live, so those settings should work for all Unicel customers. If not, you may call Unicel and request the correct settings.

As for disabling the IMS service, I am not sure as to what it actually disables… but my guess is that Unicel doesn’t use the service, so having it turned on causes problems. For more information on IMS – Read Phone Scoop

If this post has helped you, please leave a comment. If you have suggestions or something is not working for you, please let me know and I will try to help you asap.
